Robert Fells has been working with A.I. matching text interviews with images and vocal grabs. Some are interesting, such as Caruso singing. Others are misfires. Here is one made from a 1926 interview Chase gave to Picture Play. It definitely looks like him; kinda sounds like him; but doesn't quite hit the mark.

So basically, this week the mafia has seen a good use of AI and now a stupid, pointless use of AI, from the man who likes to colorize pictures and put his face on other historical photos, now adding this nonsense to his other time-wasting pursuits.
It looks like a Walt Disney audio-animatronic dummy, SOME MOMENTS WITH MR. CHASE instead of Mr. Lincoln. The scary part is that this technology will get better and the deep-fakes harder to spot.

I didn’t care for this at all. No inflection or discernable accent in the voice, which (to me) sounds nothing like Charley Chase. It sounds more like the actor who voiced the giraffe in the MADAGASCAR movies. Animating an iconic portrait of Charley into something so robotic was outright creepy.
YouTube is already hosting click-bait nonsense that Rudolph Valentino wasn’t good in talkies, THE GENERAL destroyed Buster Keaton’s career, John Wayne was gay, etc. A.I. will prove dangerous in the wrong hands, especially those who haven’t any good intentions.

What was Samuel Johnson's comment on seeing a dancing pig? "How wonderful! I wish it wasn't possible!"
