THE BUSTER KEATON SHOW 2 kines & 7 filmed - coming on Blu-Ray

Coming out September 16th. I suspect this set utilizes Sabucat’s restorations since what he previously posted on YouTube has just been pulled.

However, the description on Amazon is not very accurate. The two kinescopes from Buster’s first tv series (1949-50) are lumped together with seven of the filmed episodes from his 1951 series.

The kinescope from February 23, 1950 is listed as "first time ever available” which isn’t true. I watched it with Eleanor Keaton and Ed Bernds 40 years ago. This is “The Gymnasium Story” which has been around on home video for at least that long. However Sabucat’s copy is a restored original kinescope, so on that basis alone, the entire set is worth getting.

Even better, the February 2, 1950 kinescope episode with Leon Belasco is identified as “not seen since its original air date.” That’s going to be a new Keaton experience for most (if not all) of us. If it’s half as good as “The Gymnasium Story,” we’re in for a special treat.

The seven filmed episodes from Buster’s 1951 series are identified (along with the two kinescopes) as the only episodes that “exist today.” While true perhaps for the kinescopes, I believe all 13 episodes of the 1951 series exists. I have a 16mm original of one of them not included here (a remake of the first series’ "Gymnasium Story"), and a friend has a 16mm on “The Time Machine.” Other missing episodes like “The Little Theater” are fairly common to find on video. None of these are on this set, but it’s the two kinescopes that make this an essential addition for any Keaton buff.

Ed, isn't "The Little Theater Story" part of the feature compilation THE MISADVENTURES OF BUSTER KEATON? I have a print of that, but haven't watched it in years.

You’re absolutely right, Richard - “The Little Theater Story” was incorporated into THE MISADVENTURES OF BK, where it was a highlight of the feature. Back in 1994 a company called Stardance Entertainment was selling vhs copies of several Keaton tv episodes, including “Little Theater.” I don’t have their flyer anymore but here’s a description of their source material off a videocasette box:
