silentcomedymafia not allowed on silentcomedians

Postby Pasquale Ventura » Wed Oct 30, 2013 2:10 pm

Well, well well. Isn't this interesting.
Seems you are not allowed to mention silent comedy mafia over at silentcomedians whatsoever.
A poster over there was asking a question about rights issues regarding publishing stills, lobby cards, etc from silent comedies in books. I answered telling him the experts at silent comedy mafia would best answer his inquiry. When checking the post www.silentcomedymafia.com became www.123456789.com.

Thinking I made a mistake, I edited the post and again silentcomedymafia post's as www.1234567889. Very strange. So I sent a private message. Again, even in a private, silentcomedymafia scrambles as www.123456789.com. Realizing the silentcomedians moderator is blocking any body from the mere mention of silent comedy mafia, I sent the fellow a email instead.

Very immature thing to do. But then again some moderator's think of themselves dictators of their personal little kingdoms. Their loss really. I rarely go there and now have no interest, the place is practically a ghost town.

Isn't this the fun of silent movie Internet Chat Groups? Just because I called the Spineless Weasel who runs that other minor silent comedy newsgroup a Spineless Weasel when he tossed me off his little tinpot kingdom, now none shall ever speak the word "mafia". We make fun of them once in awhile, but we certainly didn't ban the use of their name.

Then again, it makes it kinda hard on a group that discusses silent comedians if you ban the use of the words "silent comedians".

I think he also banned the mention of Richard, M, and Roberts. Tough luck for anyone wishing to discuss Big Joe Roberts. And don't even start a post about M&M's.

Imagine if individuals calling themselves "Lloyd Chaplin" and "Buster Langdon" got banned. You'd be limited to posting polls like "Who Is Funnier: Harold or Gaylord 12345?"

Their loss is Silent Comedy Mafia's gain.

Well, the answer is Harold 12345, of course.

I really respect Richard for not allowing the funny screen names here.....though most of us here wouldn't need them.
We don't hide behind silly monikers, and we don't have to deal with thoes who do.
It is a much better discussion to know who you are speaking with, rather than trying to figure out who might be behind the silly name.

I think the problems with the other sites is that the silly annonimity is a problem in itself.
It is easy to be mean, nasty, & dumb-as-dirt-factless when you are hiding behind the shield of a pseudonym.
You can hurl the barbs, or stupidity, with the comfort of cover.

Not all sites with funny names experience this, but the silly names make them all vunerable to it.

So now, just the mere mention of a certain expert(or his website) sends them covering like the FCC is on their trail for using the "Seven Dirty Words"?
So how can one discuss classic films from the politically incorrect days of the movies when they censor who can be referenced?

Let's not forget the star of this year's Slapsticon, 12345 Hamilton.

It was nice to meet you at Slapsticon, by the way. I think if you watch THE SHRIMP once a week for an entire year, you will overcome your fear of Langdon talkies. If that doesn't work, perhaps Max Davidson could hypnotize you.
