Hal Roach Oddity on Monday at 6:00am
Hal Roach Oddity on Monday at 6:00am
Perhaps in honor of the Slapsticon's time-honored tradition of screening the rarest oddities around, tomorrow morning at 6:00am EDT TCM will be showing "Men of the North", a 1930 Hal Roach-directed Northwest Canadian Mounted Police Northern. The cast (which headlines Gilbert Roland) and crew were all from MGM, not Roach, suggesting that MGM so admired Roach's directing skills that they hired him just for this picture (perhaps Lionel Barrymore was unavailable).

Wasn't this his "test" film using a multi-lingual cast. This was another experiment before dubbing.

They were showing Canadian themed movies yesterday because it was "Canada Day". I'm sorry I missed this one.
