LOVE A LA MODE (1930) Bernard Granville, Kathryn McGuire

Here's evidence that Jack White could produce just as leaden and painful an early talkie as either Mack
Sennett or Al Christie could.

Released by Educational November 2, 1930, directed by Stephen Roberts, and featuring "Broadway Legend" Bernard "Bunny" Granville (well, he was Bonita Granville's Dad) who only appeared in a handful of films before it was determined that the "legend" did not translate much west of the Hudson River, Kathryn McGuire made this her last film (she must have seen it), and it is one of her few talkies, but if you really want to hear her voice, both THE LOST ZEPPELIN (1929) and THE LONG, LONG TRAIL (1929) with Hoot Gibson survive and are much more entertaining (or you could watch that 1964 episode of PATHFINDERS we have up on the Mafia where she's interviewed with Andy Clyde and Del Lord). The only redeeming feature of this short is occasionally, Al Alt and Clem Beauchamp (Jerry Drew) will show up and execute some lovely pratfalls and headers into the swimming pool (though Drew's voice seems to be dubbed by someone else).

We have a short comedy set around a swimming pool and we never even get to see Kathryn in a swimsuit!

Kit Parker would call this one of his "Positively No Refunds" movies, but we give you the opportunity to scratch it off the list:
