THOSE WERE THE DAYS (1934) Will Hay

Postby Rob Farr » Wed Dec 14, 2022 9:48 am

This is one of those films where the producers optioned a property simply as a hook to hang a lot of authentic Music Hall performances on. In this case, it was the 50-year-old play THE MAGISTRATE by A.W. Pinero. Young Sidney Drew was cast as the juvenile lead in the play, here played by young John Mills. THOSE WERE THE DAYS also has the distinction of being Will Hay's debut film, in a part unlike the ones he would play for the rest of his career. But the real treasure are the music hall performers, many past their prime, but giving it one last go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OKn1DjxpHg
