Charley Chase in German

Postby Ed Watz » Sat Mar 26, 2022 2:22 pm

Here's another of the ZDF channel's "Vater der Klammotte" entries, originally aired in 1974, and featuring Charley Chase and Thelma Todd dubbed in German. The first 7 minutes is taken from LOOSER THAN LOOSE, which then segues into nearly all of WHISPERING WHOOPEE. I wonder if the producers licensed this footage or simply didn't bother to check whether or not it was public domain?

At any rate, German audiences of the 1970s would've been more familiar with Chase's Hal Roach talkies than most American comedy fans -- who had to wait 45 years until Richard and Kit Parker got these gems released on DVD!
