I like the observation that Scott Berg made, in THE SPEED OF SOUND, that seeing Jessel answers the question "What would have happened if Jessel made THE JAZZ SINGER? Warners would have gone bankrupt, and talkies wouldn't catch on for another ten years." (I'm paraphrasing).
