Out of nowhere this morning, I 'discovered' two new (at least to me) Chaplin impersonators, both Australian. I couldn't find out very much, other than a few titles:
Ern Vockler starred in MA HOGAN'S (or Hoggans') NEW BOARDER (1915),directed by Raymond Longford (fairly famous ) and CHARLIE AT THE SYDNEY SHOW (1916) directed by John Gavin (aka Jack Gavin, our friend from Roach).
Leonard Doogood starred in and directed ALGIE'S ROMANCE (1918) and also was in CHARLIE'S TWIN BROTHER (date unknown?)
We have our half-dozen or so American Chaplinators, I guess it's not so far-fetched that they would be elsewhere as well. I'm still waiting to find out more about the Mexican Chaplin..............

There is Charles Amador / Charlie Aplin footage in Kathryn Millard's The Boot Cake, isn't it?

Re: Chaplin impersonators
Here's another Spanish Chaplin, called Cardo in the film LAS PATATAS FRITAS (Studio-Film 1916); don't know who the actor is.....

Re: Chaplin impersonators
Fantastic footage. Funny premise of eating a bag of potato chips, getting thirsty and many attempts at filching a drink without funds. Simple, but works well.

Great footage, David, and the imitator's not half-bad. Love the monkey, though, and the quiet dog sitting beside him (her?).

Here is more of Peladilla (Benito Perojo) in PELADILLA VA AL FUTBOL (Patria Films 1914 directed by Perojo)

Que Bueno!
I would imagine that Benito Perojo would be among the first filmed Chaplin impersonators.
On further research, it looks like this is also known as CLARITA Y PELADILLA EN EL FOOTBALL (Patria 1916)
On a side note, in EVERETT TRUE BREAKS INTO THE MOVIES (1916), there is a Chaplin impersonator as well; never a part of the story, this non-identified fellow is in three scenes (first in line outside the office, first in line inside the office, and then in the middle of the crowd in the office). Very curious.

Could the Chaplin impersonator and movie director in the Everett True movie be Ray Hughes?

Unlikely.
I had a feeling the 1914 date on the Spanish film was a bit too early, but Benito Perojo is actually pretty good, and has some good supporting players.
