ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE COMIQUE GROUP:
We think it is safe to say that 2020 was not quite the year that anyone was expecting!
Many of us in the entertainment industry have been unable to work since March, a maddening thing for artists of any stripe, and the future remains uncertain. However, rather than remain idle, historians Paul E. Gierucki, David B. Pearson, Eryn Merwart, and a LOT of friends and colleagues, decided that we wanted to use the time to do something special – create something fun and different to help balance out this dumpster fire of a year!
Below you will find a link from which you can download your very own copy of COMIQUE: The Classic Comedy Magazine! This project, crafted and contributed to by some of best historians, archivists, and artists in the business, is our GIFT to you! Free. Gratis. No charge. We are hoping that this holiday offering will provide everyone with an entertaining diversion in what has otherwise been a complicated time for many.
Inside of COMIQUE you will find a whopping 160 pages of original articles, amazing stories, artwork, and rare images featuring the great, not-so-great, and nearly forgotten comedians ranging from the 1900s through the 1960s!
Issue #1 includes:
Lea Stans – Pantomime and Pratfalls: The Busy Career of Billy Bevan
Annette Lloyd – Harold Lloyd: Undiscovered Country
Joanna E. Rapf – Dorothy Devore: Luminary of the Two-Reelers
Joyce Richardson – Walker and Williams
John Bengtson – The Great Stone Face?
Sam Gill – Musings
Mary Mallory – Franklin Pangborn -- The Early Years
Walt Mitchell & Paul E. Gierucki – Abbott and Costello on Record
Edward Watz – Shemp Sightings
Dean Vanderkolk – Ed Simmons: Television’s Unsung Comedy Hero
Tony Susnick – Kalton C. Lahue: A Pioneering Historian Remembered
Gierucki – The Hardy Family
David B. Pearson -- Our Gang: The Jean Darling "Jinx"
Patricia Eliot Tobias – Buster Keaton: What You Thought You Knew
William Malin – A Great Act of Kindness by Groucho Marx
And much more!
If there is interest, we will continue to publish COMIQUE at irregular intervals and eventually offer printed archival editions for sale. If you like what we are doing, and wish to help us with a donation, we would certainly welcome any amount that you deem appropriate ( -- or not, the magazine is free!) simply direct PayPal donations to BrittanyJane99@hotmail.com. Your kind support is deeply appreciated! Please feel free to tell your friends and share the link as you wish. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
The Comique Group
