Lupino Lane's first Educational comedy, released October 11 1925, directed by Charles Lamont, and featuring Lane with brother Wallace Lupino, Helen Foster, Otto Fries, and Lane's own wife Violet Blythe as the Caliph's favorite wife:

Lane's loop-de-loop stunt at 18:31 is one of the greatest in film comedy history.

How did he do that? I'm stumped. There seems insufficient forward speed for his loop to be genuine. Was there a wire? Was there a hand-hold at the top? Thanks for pointing this out.

I don't know how the stunt was done but it strikes me that this would make a great animated GIF with Lane going round and round, assuming a better quality video could be found.
