The gags in this picture aren't so hot but it was extremely gratifying to see a good bit of Educational Studios. Another gratifying aspect of the film is seeing the guy who plays the dog get some actual time in a comedy. This man was in a lot of Alice Howell and Billy Franey comedies and tons of other silent comedies, and may be the metamorphosed cop in L&H's LIBERTY. Steve Massa found his name in an ad and finally we have a last name for the actor which, if I remember correctly was Phipps.

The little guy in the Billy Franey, Alice Howell, and Monty Banks comedies name was E. Vilip. This fellow in THE MOVIE HOUND is actually George Atterbury who was a stage partner of Lupino Lane and his valet for many years (he continued working for Violet Blythe after Lane's death). Wallace Lupino's son Richard referred to him as "Little George" and had photos of him with the family and on stage, where he often appeared in a Bonzo dog suit. George appeared in many Educational titles such as HOLD THAT BEAR, LUCKY DOG (both '27), and ROAMING ROMEO ('28).

Here's a 1945 British Pathe profile on Lupino Lane where Little George turns up in the Bonzo suit:
