Slapsticon Site to Bite the Dust

Many members of the mafia have attended at least one iteration of the Slapsticon, held in Arlington VA between 2003-10. Most attendees considered the Spectrum Theatre to be one of the stars of the event, featuring theatrical seating, a real projection booth that could accommodate two 35mm archival projectors and two 16mm projectors, and a spacious lobby for schmoozing and noshing. Just learned that The Spectrum has an irrevocable date with the wrecking ball soon after June 30. Not only are films and projectors going the way of the dinosaur, but proper screening venues are even dying off. No doubt The Spectrum will be replaced by a cozy little digital/media art gallery. RIP.
