Stephen Salmons RIP

No one lives forever -- except, perhaps, Shirley MacLaine. This is where we ring down the final curtain for Filmdom's finest.

Stephen Salmons RIP

Postby Richard M Roberts » Sat Mar 25, 2023 5:50 am

Very sad news that Stephen Salmons, one of the co-founders with his wife Melissa of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival has passed away at the age of 64. Back in the early 1990's Stephen and Meliissa began coming to Cinecon to begin building interest for a Silent Film Festival in San Francisco and also to watch and learn how to run a festival/convention. They were both very nice people who finally started the Fest in 1996, and then built it into the successful show it became. But they were always still very nice, down to earth people, I was always impressed that they would contact Slapsticon for years to see what our dates were because we usually ran in the same Summer months and they didn't want our dates to conflict, which always surprised us as we didn't think there was really much cross-over and they were a much larger festival by that time than us, but they paid us that courtesy, and for many years the two festivals ran on different weeks. Needless to say, when the San Francisco Silent Film Festival was taken over by others, that courtesy stopped.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Melissa and their Family as we mourn another passing of one of the good people in this area of interest, too rare and precious a commodity these days.

Rest in Peace, Stephen.
