I think Keaton's "The Playhouse" is a great example of surreal cinema - and a jaw-dropping example of pioneering special effects that are totally seamless. Snub Pollard's "The Mystery Man" is also quite bizzare as well as Billy Franey's "The Cameraman."

Re: Slapsticon 2010 Titles
As always, Richard, it looks to be a great line-up! Can't wait to walk through the doors of the Spectrum Theatre to not only enjoy these rare films, but to hook up with my vintage comedy cohorts from around the world! Thanks for pulling this together yet again!

Re: Paul Parrott on youtube
I'm trying to come to grips with the fact that Steve M - one of the world's foremost silent comedy historians (and I mean that seriously) didn't dig up this Paul Parrott comedy in an archive somewhere ... didn't find it in someone's private collection ... but spotted it on YouTube of all places. Whe...

Re: Hopping Off
There are a number of interesting WILD BABIES stills showing Charlie Hall and Charley Rogers in Dean McKeown's CHARLIE HALL PICTURE ARCHIVE. They include scenes on the airplane and in the jungle.

Re: Bill Frisell
I remain in complete concurrence with Richard. Silly me. I couldn't imagine musical accompaniment for silent comedy getting any worse than the Alloy Orchestra. Just goes to show, I guess.

Re: Here's the BECOMING CHARLEY CHASE booklet
I just received my pre-ordered Chase DVD set from DeepDiscount the other day. It was a great price but media mail is the absolute pits - even if shipping is free. Took forever! Anyway, just a "thank you" to Richard not only for posting the unpublished booklet (which helpfully laundry lists...

New Lloyd Hamilton Book Released
I just went on Amazon to order a water filter for my refrigerator (they had new and used ones available and I thought why the hell would anyone order a used water filter). Anyway to make a long story longer, the Lloyd Hamilton book popped up in the "you might be interested in ..." window. ...

Re: Vaudeville resources?
Before "Billboard" magazine began reporting on the recording industry, it was a trade publication for the vaudeville circuits. About 40 years ago when I was in college (damn am I that old now?) I did research in "Billboard's" vaults, which for some reason were located in my homet...
