Re: MAX COMES ACROSS (1917) Max Linder
Here's yet another brief excerpt from the elusive MAX COMES ACROSS, sent to me by a friend who found it from she-doesn't-remember-where, and possibly had it in her possession for several years now. It appears to be a tattered print filmed off television but at this point I'm grateful to see anything...

Not a bad little industrial at that, either. Assistant director Eddie Santa served the same function on a number of late Columbia two-reelers, often with The Three Stooges (he was the A.D. on the 3-D SPOOKS shortly after this).

Re: Retro - Harold Lloyd
Thank you Uli, it's always fun watching these latter-day interviews. My German isn't up to par yet (I doubt it will ever be!), but when the interviewer asked Harold whether he directed his films, did Lloyd reply in the affirmative or did he qualify his answer? Of course Harold's involvement in his p...

Re: TROUBLE BREWING (1924) Larry Semon, Oliver Hardy
Thank you Richard, good to finally see the last of Larry's Vitagraphs, Smith was right, it resembles numerous Semon shorts of the last few seasons. I was almost disappointed when a satchel bag containing money didn't show up in the first ten minutes- a common plot point in so many post-1920 Semon co...

Re: Pordenone Silent Film Festival - Origins of Slapstick: Transatlantic Echoes
Thanks, Ed; it was indeed, is an all-silent version even surviving? From what Steve and I heard (both laughter and comments, that is), the series was nicely received indeed, including the more off-beat selections like Toto and the Fratellinis. A shame, indeed a tragedy; and while Beef & Steak w...

Re: THREE AGES Cohen Media Restoration - Amazon Review
Thank you, Ed (way belatedly) for this detailed review and comparison of the various Blu-Rays of Three Ages. (I've the 2010 disc, and will look for the 2017 edition). Ed, are the Eureka discs the same transfers as the Cohen Blu-Rays, or different editions all together? I keep seeing them online. De...

Re: SPUDS (1927) Larry Semon
It is a wonderful comedy, with a heartfelt tribute to Chaplin, that is laden with gobs of racial humor. I would expect to see Topsy and Eva released on home video before this one. This film was an unexpected delight, with Larry giving his most sympathetic and appealing performance. Thoroughly enjoy...
