Re: Slapsticon Notes: PROFESSOR BEWARE (1938)

Lloyd also sent men to the larger venues to confirm attendance and pick up the Lloyd money in person which rubbed a lot of exhibitors the wrong way. By reading exhibitor comments (which are great to read) one could get the impression that Johnny Hines' success was due to not being Harold Lloyd. Para...

Re: THE ROUND-UP starring Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle

Were the two Keystone half-reelers A BANDIT and PEEPING PETE derived from paper prints? If so, many paper print silent comedies at the LOC will rival film in future restorations.
I was surprised to find out that those two films were filmed in Tijuanna.

Re: BRING HOME THE TURKEY (1927) Our Gang

This seems to be the most brutal of any Hal Roach comedy I've seen. Is Theodore Roberts "Warthead?"

Re: Lige Conley-Jimmie Adams short

This is THE STEEPLECHASER (1922). Its an all star Educational with Cliff Bowes and Spencer Bell also. This is an Italian re-issue that added a soundtrack and they did a pretty good job with it. Lige Conley remade this at Fox in 1927 and named the remake, drum roll......THE STEEPLECHASER.

Re: Book ID requested

I have just ordered a copy off ebay and I'll report back. I was Laurel and Hardy centrist then, the only silent comedies I cared about were L&H. A couple of years later thanks Kerr's book THE SILENT CLOWNS, pizza parlors, and The Flick theater in Denver when I obtained my driver's license change...

Re: The Death of Lonesome Luke

Some of the early "glass" films were advertised as Lonesome Lukes. CYNICISM ALERT! In 1943 one of Lloyd's film vaults caught fire. It was the vault that contained mostly Lonesome Luke comedies. I speculate that Lloyd bought these negatives from Roach to keep them out of public view despite...
