Re: Silent Christie Paramount shorts

Since there’s not a lot of information on the silent Paramount Christie shorts that aren’t available today, I’ve gone through the stills and put together cast lists. Anyway, I’ve gathered all the info I could find into a filmography in the hopes that it would be valuable to anyone doing research on...

Re: RKO Two-Reelers

About ten years ago, I tracked down the ownership of the RKO comedy shorts. They are lowned by business interests controlled by a family named Saltzman out of New York City - or at least they were in the late 1990s. For those interested in reading that sort of thing, there was a Tax Court case appea...

Re: Mack Sennett & Education Pictures ...

Educational originally released MATCH PLAY as a "Mack Sennett Special" separately from the Mack Sennett Comedies series (as they had the prior season's JAZZ MAMMAS), so there may have been some quirk in organization in Zouary's hands.

Re: Mack Sennett & Education Pictures ...

MATCH PLAY was included in a package of Educational sound shorts (both Sennett and non-Sennett) that was shown in Detroit on Saturday mornings in the early-mid 1970's, so it presumably is around somewhere. Not a real funny comedy, as I recall. The point seemed to be the novelty of having Hagen and D...

Re: Stepping on the Gas (1920)

The, or a, series name for these films was THE FORTUNE HUNTERS. I think there were at least 12 titles in the series (very much like several Witwer / FBO series). Sam Efrus, who was also making LIGHTNIN' THE POLICE DOG features as a low-rent Rin-Tin-Tin at about the same time, was responsible. Isn't ...

Re: Stepping on the Gas (1920)

I have these eight titles that were produced with the involvement of something called Sun Pictures and released on the states rights market in 1927: 1. DOWN TO THE SEA IN CABS 2. GOLDEN SHACKLES 3. HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE 4. OUTSIDE INN 5. SHERLOCK RIVALS (OR SHERLOCK’S RIVAL) 6. STEPPING ON THE GAS 7. TH...

Hopping Off

Recently, a still sold on eBay from HOPPING OFF, a Hal Roach-MGM comedy starring Charley Rogers and Charley Hall. Huh? You can see it at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400070003865 Note that Charlie Hall sports sort of a Clyde Cook - Snub Pollard look. What is this? The stil...

Re: Johnny Salvo

Other Savo titles from Fox's 1921-22 Sunshine group include PARDON ME, TRY AND GET IT and HOLD THE LINE. He was also in one of the Lambs Club comedies that Columbia released in 1932-33. And other than Al St. John, Clyde Cook and Lupino Lane, the Fox Sunshines didn't promote no one, no how. We know m...
