Re: BERTHA THE BUTTONHOLE-MAKER 1914
Yeah, that's Dave Morris as the chief. The little cop is Gus Alexander, Gus Pixley's there as well, and the fat cop is Russ Powell. MoMA has a print of this which is more complete with the opening footage of the main characters working in the sweatshop. Soon-to-be Sennett regular Laura La Varnie is ...

Re: HOLDING HIS OWN 1917 George Ovey
David -thanks for posting. It's always great to see George Ovey. Whoever put it up got the date bunged up a bit as the Folly's were a little later. HOLDING HIS OWN is listed in the Motion Picture News in 1922.

Re: Silent Comedies from Belgium
Oh, I forgot to mention that a young John Wayne may be in the football sequence in THE DRAW BACK. Take a look in at 14:50 and 24:38 and check if this is only wishful thinking on my part.

Re: Silent Comedies from Belgium
I agree. This seems to be the standard "European archival speed," but I'm very glad that they're even interested in and working on the films, plus trying to make them available.

American Silent Comedies from Belgium
Had the opportunity to consult with the Cinematheque Royale in Belgium and help identify some of their American Silent comedies. They recently have started posting some of them and just added two more: THE DRAW BACK ('27) Jack White Tuxedo Comedy with Johnny Arthur, Wallace Lupino, and Katherine McG...

Re: Can anyone identify this please?
It also looks like it might be Ben Hall from one of the "Harold Highbrow" shorts he did for Universal in the late 1920s.

Re: THE HUNGRY ACTORS (1915)
Hi Bruce Martha Maddox is the woman to the left with the bow (or whatever it is) in her hair. That's not Roy Stewart as the parson - it looks like a young Eddie Borden. Looks like Neely Edwards as the guy kneeling on the left in character make-up. Don't think that's Bobby Vernon at top. Wonderful ph...

Dan Russell and Marjorie Ray
Here's a link to an excellent piece of research by Michael G. Ankerich on the L-Ko Comedy players Dan Russell and Marjorie Ray (a.k.a. Mrs. Dan Russell). One extra bit of info that Michael passed on to me but didn't include in the piece is that Dan Russell died in March of 1925 after an operation fo...

The Man from Egypt (1916)
Here's a link to a Dutch print of the Larry Semon-directed 1916 Vitagraph one-reeler THE MAN FROM EGYPT. Co-written with Graham Baker, it stars Hughie Mack with Jewell Hunt, Kate Price, and William Shea:

Mike and Ike (they don't really look alike)
Hi guys While surfing around on youtube I came across the first reel of the Stern Bros. "Mike & Ike" comedy ALL FOR UNCLE (10/19/1927). Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLtt_FnxDmA Charles Dorety is Ike and Charles King is Mike. Their maid is Dorothea Wolbert, the big guy ...
