Re: Ben Turpin - Step Forward (1922)
And oh yeah, can't wait to see your reconstruction of "She Sighed by the Seaside," Dave. That's an even rarer title!

Re: Ben Turpin - Step Forward (1922)
Hello Dave and Richard! Dave, thanks for the link to that Turpin short, "Step Forward." Have to say the print looks great and I wish there was more, it's a rarer title. Years ago Bill Sprague put the short on VHS which print I believe came from Richard's collection. More recently I was abl...

Re: Jack Hardy's shorts...
Dave,
I haven't seen Jack Hardy's print, but if memory serves me well, Ben Turpin's Law Man was originally "Yukon Jake."
That's one of the clips that bit me with the Turpin bug 45 years ago. And that ain't no baloney!

"One of the finest books..."
"...One of the finest books ever written on a silent movie performer." That's what author/critic James Neibaur says of my book, FOR ART'S SAKE, The Biography and Filmography of BEN TURPIN, from BearManor Media . WOW, that says a lot! Especially when nothing serious has ever been written i...

Re: Ben Turpin/Heinie Conklin still
Hello Pasquale. I have the same exact still. Just saw the same scan posted elsewhere which I replied to. Like Richard said, it is a posed photo for publicities sake. This was taken in early 1919 probably during the filming of one of their shorts, my best guess is that it was taken during "When ...

WOW!!! Thanks so very much for your very nice words, Marilyn! I'm actually surprised I didn't even come by here to announce the book myself! Blame it on that darn Facebook, it's always in my face and a bad distractor! Hope everyone saw Marilyn's link: http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/turpinforartss...

Re: The Many Faces of Joy
If this cult fascination keeps up, might we not see Johnny Depp starring in "Al Joy" at some point in the not too distant future? As bad as the guy may have been - and he was pretty darn bad - at least he didn't dress up in cashmere sweaters (although Steve Massa's research may discover o...
