Re: Farr off on UPSTREAM
Come on Richard!!! All Ford pictures are funny. Maybe not Shemp Howard funny, but they all carry that little something that we in the picture business call "heart". Now return to browbeating your turncoat friend. Does the "heart" come in before or after John Wayne and Victor McL...

Farr off on UPSTREAM
Hey Rob Farr, apart from turncoating over to Nitratevile, selling out for the chance f free DVD's, you must have had a bad meal before you watched UPSTREAM for your Nitratevile review. It's delightful, and Earle Foxe is hilarious. Went over great both when I saw it at the Academy in LA a few years a...

Re: Brilliant or Blasphamy... You Decide
Rob Farr Wrote: Thank God W.C. Fields wasn't signed by MGM after the success of Copperfield (not that they wanted him). We never would have had The Bank Dick or Sucker. Thank God too that Universal didn't need to force other comedians to make Abbott & Costello movies. That was a very fortuitous...

Re: Brilliant or Blasphamy... You Decide
Having time now to take a look at it, apart from shortening it I don't see much difference. MGM is a state of mind, not just pacing and musical numbers. The fact that the Marxes give a damn about Allan Jones and Kitty Carlisle is MGMing right there. Besides, OPERA is not the problem, it is a good mi...

Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
So everyone here thinks it's normal to dub dialog to a silent comedy? Call me old-fashioned but where in the hell is the color??? No, not dialogue, when one doesn't particularly understand the language, the language becomes more of a sound effect, and it's punctuation of the gags seems to work, esp...

Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
Apropos of very little, but my wife Diane and I watched this comedy. Diane is conversant in Italian. She thought the film was funny...but she thought the Italian dialogue was really funny. Makes me wish I paid attention when my Grandmother wanted to teach me Italian when I was a boy. What I find in...

ROARS AND UPROARS (1922) Jack Cooper and Bobby Ray
Continuing our adventures of Puck e Puck, here's a Chester Comedy from 1922 featuring Jack Cooper, Bobby Ray, Ernie Shields, and some cranky lions. And where else will you hear someone trying to do black stereotype dialects in italian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDfrPRMFRRU RICHARD M ROBERTS

Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
Not to be confused with the Lige Conley FOX comedy 'THE STEEPLECHASE' made 4 years later! Who'd a thought?... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7373/12088378144_8368992688.jpg Now, in fairness, the Fox Comedy is actually called THE STEEPLECHASE, not THE STEEPLECHASER. Only the imd(um)b gets them mixed ...

Re: GOLF BUG 1922 with Paul Parrott
This is a fun one. We showed it at Slapsticon a few years ago. Eddie Baker apparently was a voracious golfer in real life, but I don;t think wither of the Parrott Boys were more than occasional players.
