Langdon Gag in Jimmy Fielder's Parade of Silent Has Beens

Did anyone catch the 1938 Jimmy Fielder's Personality Parade on Tuesday morning? It had something like 60 clips of silent and early talkie stars, mostly culled from newsreels. Re: May '29 Release Chart for the Research Geeks

Who knows, even tho there is a section called State's Rights, it seems like the Weisses just wanted to bypass the trade press. BTW, I noticed that two pages should be reversed: RC6 and RC7. Noticed too a forthcoming Laurel & Hardy short called "Vodeville", which became Berth Marks. And...

Re: May '29 Release Chart for the Research Geeks

The microfilm/pdf scanner is a loaner from the PowerScan 2000 company to get a reaction from staff and patrons. So for now it is free. But even if it become a permanent fixture you would think that the user fees would be minimal since it uses no ink or paper. You would think. When I say Geek, think ...

Researchers need no longer haul rolls of quarters past security and explain to the guard that ...

Re: Body IDs please

The other sailors in A Submarine Pirate may have been actual U.S. Navy submariners since it was filmed on location at the San Diego (or San Pedro) Navy yard.

Re: Raymond Griffith

Unlike most of the personality comedians, Griffith always works best when he is paired with a strong female co-star, as is the case with Paths to Paradise and The NIght Club. IMO these are his two best, so seek these out any you may be a Ray Griffith fan for life.

Re: Raymond Griffith

Here's a list surviving prime Griffith features (and his one surviving "raspie" short) that I've seen. White Tiger (1923) Changing Husbands (1924) Open All Night (1924) Miss Bluebeard (1925) Paths to Paradise (1925) The Night Club (1925) Hands Up! (1926) Trent's Last Case (1929) The Sleepi...

Roach Short Back on TCM

After a nearly year-long hiatus, TCM will once again show a Hal Roach short, Maid in Hollywood with Todd and Kelly. Saturday morning at 7:40 EDT. Let's hope this is the beginning of a trend.

This Isn't About Politics, But...

...this photo in last week's Washington Post reminded me of one of my favorite Charley Bowers' films.
