Re: Comedy with Penguins

Are there penguins in Yukon Jake...I am at work...

Re: Mississippi or Missouri?

It would be interesting to see if there was a local paper that might show when and where Zera the Great was playing in West Point. Of course, with a possible variance in years that might be cumbersome to do (if there are surviving papers or microfilm).

Re: Mississippi or Missouri?

One must wonder being born in Mississippi and educated in South Carolina whether Larry Semon had a southern accent or not -- a possible link for his close association with Babe Hardy. All the more sad that he would die in 1928 before the public heard his voice. I think like Keaton in Kansas, he was...

Re: Mississippi or Missouri?

Actually, the 1900 census listing I found for a Lawrence Semon, born July 1889, gives his birthplace as New York not Misssissippi and, his parents' as Germany. He was living in Brooklyn. However, this looks like a different Larry Semon. I haven't done much research on him, and I know others have, an...

Re: Mississippi or Missouri?

Well, his 1900 and 1920 census records say Mississippi, and his World War I Draft Registration says West Point, Mississippi. (I can't find him in the 1910 census.) What's weird is, the Draft Registration (and it's definitely him--it gives his occupation as Motion Picture Director, Vitagraph) gives h...

Re: Scott Eyman revews Brent Walkers Sennett Book

Yeah, Scott was whining about the money to me when he read my Roach book as well (he wrote one of the the "Big-Time Celebrity " introductions to the book). I told him I didn't give a flying f**k about the money, it wasn't in any way the focus of my book, and it would be damn boring readin...

Article on Helen "Ollie" Carlyle on Mack Sennett blog

I've posted a new article on my blog ( http://macksennett.blogspot.com ) about Keystone actress Helen "Ollie" Carlyle, who played the "bald" leading lady in WHEN LOVE TOOK WINGS, maids in such comedies as THAT LITTLE BAND OF GOLD--and also happened to be related to the most impor...

Re: Mack Sennett's Fun Factory blog

By the way, ironically after the book was printed, I discovered that I actually may have a never-before-published photo of Chaplin in the book. On p. 54...... Clarence Badger may be to the left of Bordeaux, Slim Summerville to the right and Phyllis Allen directly across from him. Brent Regarding Mr...
