Re: Johnny Salvo
About a year after Savo's comedies Fox made a few with another stage name, Poodles Hanneford, and didn't promote him either. ROUGH SAILING (11/18/1923) and THE RIDING MASTER (12/16/1923) are two of Poodle's Fox shorts, where he doesn't seem to have been named in reviews or advance material. I was ab...

Re: Johnny Salvo
Hi guys Jimmy Savo was a popular stage clown in vaudeville, Broadway revues, nightclubs, etc. He was small, big-eyed, with a round face and dressed in oversized clothes and a bowler hat. Really only dabbling in films, he made a few shorts for Fox and appeared in occasional features, one of which was...

Re: CAMERA Comedy Clippings, January 27, 1923
Hi guys I think the Singer Midgets were also in Fox's comedy feature SKIRTS ('21 - basically a Sunshine Comedy with a glandular condition) along with most of the comedy players in Hollywood - Clyde Cook, Chester Conklin, Polly Moran, Slim Summerville, Billy Armstrong, Alta Allen, Harry Booker, Glen ...

Hi Louie
What a fantastic collection of photos. Really an amazing behind the scenes look at 1920s features (even Chaney seems pretty friendly). Too bad the sisters didn't do slapstick comedies.

Re: Ed Wynn introduces "Silent Television"
Hi Chris I've seen Buster's pie throwing clip from the Ed Wynn Show. In 1996 the Museum of Televesion & Radio in NYC did "The Return of the Man in the Pork Pie Hat: Buster Keaton on Television," a nine program series of Buster's guest appearances, commercials, etc. They had stuff we've...

Re: Buster, Dorothy and others photo
Looks like it was shot on the MGM lot around the time of THE CAMERAMAN ('28), SPITE MARRIAGE ('29) or FREE AND EASY ('30).

Re: Under the Radar
Hi guys There doesn't seem to be much of Harry Sweets' silent work (starring or directing) around - just dribs and drabs. In addition to the unidentified LOC film that Richard mentioned MoMA has LION JAWS AND KITTEN PAWS ('20) and THE KICKIN' FOOL ('22). There's a few more of his directorial works f...

Re: CAMERA Comedy Clippings, January 20, 1923
I'm thinking that the Chick Collins listed as Ass't Direct on the Buster Keaton production "Three Acres of Land" (THE THREE AGES??) must be the same Chick Collins who later played small parts in some of the Roscoe Arbuckle directed shorts like HOME CURED ('26) and HIS PRIVATE LIFE ('26), a...

Hi Gary Here's a short essay I wrote about Langdon's influence on Stan Laurel that's in the booklet of David Kalat's "Harry Langdon: Lost and Found" DVD set. Steve Laurel and Harry by Steve Massa Harry Langdon was the silent comedy comet that shot across the motion picture skies in the mid...
