Re: Help identifying faux Keystone Cops film?

An Italian dubbed version LA BOMBA COMICA is on Youtube. The George Rowe "Cop" footage begins around the 3-minute mark: https://youtu.be/fRQTFXGwcns This mishmash of slapstick fragments was first released in France as CA C'EST DU CINEMA (1950). Three years later came the British version SL...

Re: Murray Glass RIP

Thanks Richard for the (sad) news, I had no idea he had passed away. When I started collecting 16mm in the mid-1970s, Murray made a reversal of Keaton's THE GOLD GHOST for me, my first-ever introduction to Buster's Educational shorts. For me, Keaton in sound here was a revelation, after having seen ...

Blackhawk Bulletins Online

USC's Hugh Hefner Moving Image Archive now has a substantial number of the Blackhawk Films bulletin (beginning in 1950) and their predecessor, The Eastin 16mm rental catalog (starting with 1935). Overall there are 443 issues online, viewable as PDFs or for downloading. The earliest Hal Roach-license...

Second 100 Years actual title card.jpeg PS. I'm still hoping to live long enough to see a complete print of 'The Second 100 Years'! Seeing a complete THE SECOND 100 YEARS has always meant a great deal more to me than finally watching Reel Two of THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY. It was another of our grea...

Re: CHARLEY CHASE AT HAL ROACH: THE TALKIES VOLUME TWO 1932-33 coming out this Tuesday

A great review from THE LOST LAUGH: https://thelostlaugh.com/2019/09/09/not-so-silent-racket-more-charley-chase-classics-on-dvd/ RICHARD M ROBERTS The reviewer's first comment ("As with volume 1 of this series, I have to begin by awarding this DVD five stars simply for existing") really g...

Re: Caveat emptor: Cohen Media's SEVEN CHANCES

If a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, this image should speak for itself. Someone just shared with me a review of Cohen Media's latest US BluRay Keaton release (Volume 3, SEVEN CHANCES/BATTLING BUTLER), which includes this Technicolor screenshot from SEVEN CHANCES: CM US BluRay Seven Chance...

Re: Caveat emptor: Cohen Media's SEVEN CHANCES

Can anyone tell the group whether Cohen Media's latest US release of SEVEN CHANCES uses the botched Technicolor transfer from their European release -- or have wiser heads prevailed, and have they upgraded the Technicolor prologue? The Kino release, of course, had a beautiful restoration of the Tech...

Re: CHARLEY CHASE AT HAL ROACH: THE TALKIES VOLUME TWO 1932-33 coming out this Tuesday

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Richard - would you believe it, 16 years old on July 16th (uh, I think I'm dyslexic with numbers sometimes). Another great thing about these sets is that everyone can own a complete collection of Chase's shorts, including the titles that one is less fond of viewing. O...

Re: CHARLEY CHASE AT HAL ROACH: THE TALKIES VOLUME TWO 1932-33 coming out this Tuesday

According to Amazon, my order was already shipped yesterday - and I can't imagine a better birthday present to myself! Looking over the DVD description again, I'm reminded of what's in store: UNA CANA AL AIRE, the 4-reel Spanish version of LOOSER THAN LOOSE, which is worth the price of the set in it...
