Re: FIRE THE COOK (aka THE DIPPY DAUGHTER) (1918) - Toto
Toto bears just enough of a physical resemblance to the young Stan Laurel that it seems possible this was all the criteria Roach needed when Stan was hired to finish off Toto's series. It's interesting how Roach in later years often repeated the story that he let go of Stan in 1918 because his blue ...

Re: TIME FLIES (1926) Lupino Lane
Erwin Dumbrille had a beautiful print of this film. Back in 1979 I was at Erwin's home when he ran it with Jack, Jules and Sam White in attendance, along with Mabel Langdon and Raymond Rohauer. Jack in particular was thrilled to see it again. Did Rohauer claim copyright and run out the door with it...

Buster Keaton on I'VE GOT A SECRET (1952)
This is believed to be the earliest existing episode of the series, and aren't we fortunate that it stars Buster:

Buster Keaton interview on Swedish TV - 1960
A tantalizing excerpt from Swedish television with a relaxed Keaton, sounding a tad philosophical. Watch when Buster slides into character, doing a gag with a microphone.

Re: GOODNESS GRACIOUS (1914) Sidney Drew Clara Kimball Young
I suspect this is where Blackhawk culled their brief clip of GOODNESS GRACIOUS for that strange hodgepodge CAMEOS OF COMEDY. What I found frustrating "back in the day" about CAMEOS was that Blackhawk had access to an English-language reel two of THE BUTCHER BOY but decided to focus mostly ...

Re: Victor Potel's Paintings
In the eBay photo, Vic Potel is commemorating Gloria Swanson's 1925 return to Hollywood from Europe, when Paramount literally declared a studio holiday and many of the industry's celebrities came out to greet Gloria and her new husband, the Marquis Henry de La Falaise.

Re: The Charley Chase Scrapbook published today
Thanks for posting the link, Ed. (My wife keeps asking me what I want for Christmas.) Glad to share the good news, Joe. As I just posted on Facebook -- between this Charley Chase Scrapbook, Brian's Chase biography SMILE WHEN THE RAINDROPS FALL, and Richard's superb analysis of Charley's film career...

The Charley Chase Scrapbook published today
ccsb (1).jpg Today, on the anniversary of his birth, Brian Anthony and Bill Walker published THE CHARLEY CHASE SCRAPBOOK - a celebration of the life and career of one of our favorite comedians. I just received my copy and must tell you it's a must-have acquisition for Mafia members' home library. I...
