Re: THE BOY FRIEND (1928) with Max Davidson
I haven't seen The Boy Friend , but Dino brings up a good point, re "the iceman": Could this be a scene from What Every Iceman Knows ? Don't have a still number & title list to search and compare to, but I did have a glass slide years ago for Davidson's Iceman . Sorry to digress from ...

Re: What's a Head Press For...
It may have been employed that way, but I believe it's a book press, used in bindery to clamp and flatten out books as the binding glue cures. Some artisan bookbinders still have them, like this person (see the sixth photo down): http://windyweatherbindery.com/news/?m=200903 That makes sense as wel...

Yep, that's Doris too, though sadly, it looks like she's aged a bit in those four years since FREE AND EASY.

Re: Whoopee Comedies
Pathe' also put out a home 16mm sound on disc system, I know of at least one collector who turned one up with a number of prints and discs years ago (alas, he has none of the titles mentioned on Dinos list), but there's a good chance that these films could exist in 16mm in either sound on disc or so...

Re: More ID Help, PLEASE! Free and Easy
After looking at three films Marion Schilling does appear in, SHADOW OF THE LAW (1930), CURTAIN AT EIGHT (1933), and A SHOT IN THE DARK (1935), and comparing it to the FREE AND EASY dance number and the Girl Auction number in which Doris McMahon appears in MADAME SATAN (1930), I will concur that it ...

Re: What's a Head Press For...
...other than to crush craniums in slapstick comedies? I'm talking about this: http://slapsticon.org/Curly_head_press.gif . Watching Arbuckle's "Back Stage" it seems like every well-appointed office had one but it's real purpose eludes me. Seems like a lot of hardware to have around just ...

Re: Largest Pie Baked: ID help please
In this larger image I agree that it's Ruth Hiatt. But now the woman on the left of her with the hat and dark coat looks like Dot Farley. Yeah, I thought she looked like Dot Farley as well, which is possible. Dot had worked for Sennett on and off in the late 20's, notably in THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHER...

The blonde second from the right is Thelma Hill. I think the blonde next to Bevan is Ruth Hiatt as well.

Re: Lost Lloyd Shorts
Well, I have a print of FOLLOW THE CROWD, it was going to be run at Slapsticon 2011 this year. I think BEAT IT exists as well, and though I don;t recall seeing any of the others on the list right off the bat, I'd wager a number of them do survive in 9.5 prints or other wise. Lloyd one-reelers seem t...

Re: Lauritzen and Lundquist
I recall some discussion in the past - somewhere, anyway - about the relative merits of the two American Film-Index volumes by Einer Lauritzen and Gunnar Lundquist. Any thoughts from the group as to their reliability? Frank Those books are rife with errors, frequently made-up credits with no basis ...
