Arthur Ripley's VOICE IN THE WIND on TCM

For anyone interested in seeing what Mack Sennett's onetime head writer was doing between film school semesters at UCLA, TCM is showing his VOICE IN THE WIND (1944) Feb 6 at 12:30pm EST. Ripley wrote, directed and co-produced the film independently and it made some news at the time for intelligent h...

Re: Question regarding THE STAGE HAND

According to Film Daily, 12/24/34, Leigh Jason directed LOVE, HONOR AND OBEY (THE LAW!) I recognize Fred Toones and Robert Graves in this film, but I'm curious about the other cast. One of the bridesmaids looks rather like Mabel Langdon to me. The actress playing the bride looks familiar, does anyo...

Re: Question regarding THE STAGE HAND

Early ads show both Metropolitan and General were Educational's West Coast shooting locations. My impression is they owned both. LAW was shot there for Goodyear. If Educational had owned General Service Studios, they wouldn't have gone out of business, it has always been one of the busiest independ...

Re: Question regarding THE STAGE HAND

THE STAGE HAND is one Langdon title I have trouble tolerating. Two of my favorites are KNIGHT DUTY 1933 and LOVE HONOR AND OBEY (THE LAW!) * 1936. The cat and canary gag is a highlight. (I believe LOVE was shot on the Educational lot for Goodyear.) * My 1935 Kodak ** printdown with opening titles f...

General Service Studios - formerly Educational was it not? Also the car footage location shots were taken on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Re: Lloyd Hamilton in "A Home Made Man" on eBay

It does.... Now you know why I flunked out of Film Collecting 101. Yeah but when it comes to Economics I'm still in kindergarten ("let's see - for $66 I can own all the Roach L&H talkies on DVD...or maybe I can buy a 16mm print of just ONE L&H short on eBay...and maybe it won't be spli...

Re: Lloyd Hamilton in "A Home Made Man" on eBay

I'm not a collector but if a film is found in 9.5 mm format is it most likely that it was produced in Europe? The diameter (length across it) of the reel itself is 9 and a half inches, Gary. The diameter of US 800 foot reels is ten and a half inches. The film gauge is 16mm, not 9.5mm. The width of ...

Re: Lloyd Hamilton in "A Home Made Man" on eBay

Well, it's a reversal print, and thats not an 800 or 600 ft reel pictured, it's a 400 foot reel. Smells fishy to me. RICHARD M ROBERTS The reel is 9.5 inches in diameter, which corresponds to a British 800 foot reel. Most of the two reel comedies I get from the UK are on this smaller-sized reel. Th...
