Re: Vaudeville on TV

Two favorite moments pop into mind of specialty acts in the movies. Fred Astaire is waiting in the producer's office along with 50 other acts in BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940 when Trixie Firschke (not yet LaRue) pulls him in as an unwilling participant in her head bobbing juggling routine. The other momen...

Vaudeville on TV

This episode of the FRANK SINATRA SHOW is from 11/13/51. Frank introduces Larry Griswold, who went by the moniker "The Diving Fool". Griswold was a gymnastic coach in the 1930's, who also dabbled in vaudeville performing acrobatic tumbling. He and his partner started a company that develop...

Re: SILENT MOVIE

I use to believe I periodically attended showings at that theater during my four years I lived in LA. Now I read that the Hamptons shut down the place in 1979. I moved out there in the fall of that year. I guess my 'attendance' just consisted of driving by the empty building and looking in. Funny ho...

Re: Dickie Moore RIP

His book is an entertaining read. Moore wrote of being so use to signing autographs as a kid that he signed his mother's b-day card, "From your good friend Dickie Moore".

Humor Risk Exists!!.....on paper

http://www.brentonfilm.com/articles/the-marx-brothers-lost-film-humor-risk-getting-to-the-bottom-of-a-mystery When I first stumbled across this article I really wasn't going to give it the time of day. I figured it would be a lot of mindless baloney just to entice rabid Marx fans. Instead I found a...

Re: THE FLOOR BELOW (1919) Mabel Normand

It was nice to see Mabel out from under the yoke of Sennett and not having to play a kitchen drudge or a Cinderella for once. She is very entertaining in the early scenes as a newspaper working woman -- although we never actually see her working. She's too busy playing craps and goofing off. I'm not...

Re: AROUND THE WORLD WITH ORSON WELLES Blu-Ray

I was always surprised Welles didn't treat television the same way he did radio. His radio work was far more expansive than just scaring the bejesus out of the country with fake reports of UFO landings. He performed plays, read essays, provided news commentary and acted silly on sketch comedy progra...

CineMuseum's Upcoming ARBUCKLE ANTHOLOGY

Since Mr. Gierucki was finally cleared over on FB to spill the beans on their latest project, Arbuckle's surviving feature films, I thought Mr. Roberts
could chime in and clue in everyone on the nitty-gritty of it all.

Re: Al Joy May Have Competition............

So far I have yet to stumble across an Al Joy short in my lifetime. Are there even any in circulation or are they all entombed inside the nuclear bunker that sits on the far end of the Roberts hacienda?

Re: Another Dump, Another Cans of Reels Discovery

C'mon! I read it on FB so it has to be true.

So am I to understand that until this new discovery of THE CARDBOARD LOVER there had been two main prints in existence --
TCM has one and LoC has the other?
