Re: Bud Duncan query...
Hi chaps I just watched THE PAPERHANGER'S REVENGE starring Kewpie Morgan, Dot Farley and jolly Bud Duncan. As I was watching my brain started shouting at me that I'd seen the film before, so after rummaging through my piles (it's an age thing), I came across POOR RICH CLEANERS. Same film, different...

Re: Examiner Review of SMILEAGE GUARANTEED by Richard Robert
I had a good laugh today as someone pointed out to me that Neibaur's Charley Chase book, which I guess is coming out this week, costs more than my book ($70 suggested retail) and that's for a tome that's only 380 pages and a 9x6 size. Sorta brings to mind the Woody Allen joke about the restaurant wh...

Re: Ben Turpin/Heinie Conklin still
Hmmm, it's a great shot, but I'm not sure it isn't a publicity still rather than from a specific film.

Re: Cinevent Notes Past: THE WEDDING MARCH
Agreed on the whole 'tortured genius' stance. I got tired of reading about it in book after book. Some lazy writers were still pushing that storyline by the mid-80's. And I thought FOOLISH WIVES was on your 'avoid at all costs' list. My error. (And the reason Von kept getting hired after that movie...

Re: C C Burr and east coast production - 1923 edition
Thank you so much! You're welcome, but no sign of Helen Morgan in HIS JONAH DAY. The only three women visible are Evelyn Nelson, Rosa Gore and Estelle Harrison. There's a really unrealistic looking whale, but the rest of it is Aubrey and hardy abusing each other on San Pedro Pier. Maybe THE BACKYAR...

Re: C C Burr and east coast production - 1923 edition
No Aubrey/Hardy Vitagraph short by that title was released, but Paradise Alley was what Vitagraph called their backlot tenement/slum set. Might anyone know of an Aubrey/Hardy short that might meet these two criteria: 1) was in production mid-June 1920 2) provided an excuse for a lot of female extra...

Re: Cinevent Notes Past: THE WEDDING MARCH
I have never understood the cinematic fascination over Von Stroheim. This may go back to my beginnings of film fascination in the Sixties when all books on film history consisted of Griffith, Chaplin and Von Stoheim. No one else mattered!! I always found it hard to believe (even at a young age) tha...

Re: C C Burr and east coast production - 1923 edition
I've stumbled across a notice that C C Burr was in production in the east at this time. I know *nothing* about him. Might someone here offer me a primer and detail what Burr productions would fall within this Feb-Sept 1923 timeframe? are any of these films extant? C. C. Burr was producing Johnny Hi...
