Re: Question regarding THE STAGE HAND

THE STAGE HAND is one Langdon title I have trouble tolerating. Two of my favorites are KNIGHT DUTY 1933 and LOVE HONOR AND OBEY (THE LAW!) * 1936. The cat and canary gag is a highlight. (I believe LOVE was shot on the Educational lot for Goodyear.) * My 1935 Kodak ** printdown with opening titles f...

Re: Vim / Jaxon Comedies

Great shot Bob! Thanks for posting it. Can anyone throw in some IDs on the people assembled in the photo? Curious Joe Walter Stull is the mustachioed guy to the right of the suitcase. The fellow to the left of the camera, looking down with a pencil and paper in his hands, is Thomas C. Regan, sometim...

Re: Alice Day Dozen Socks (1927)

Brent do you know what the holdings are on this Sennett title are? I just found an old 100footer..I checked FIAF and it said Lobster had something but didn't state what it was... I have a print of reel two, and as I recall, LOC has material on it as well, though I can't remember as to it's complete...

Re: Lloyd Hamilton in "A Home Made Man" on eBay

For those interested, I spotted this title just listed on the UK eBay site, it's one of Ham's last silent comedies: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478641/ Forget the imdb link, where's the ebay link! Re: Weiss Brothers Lucky Strike question

Bad pie throwing too if I recall. These were some of the output of Robert Tansey, the worst of the Weiss Brothers Producers. Super cheap even by Weiss standards, and pretty devoid of humor. Remember in my commentaries on WEISS-O-RAMA, I said I was saving the viewers from a lot of the chaff. There's ...

Re: RKO Two-Reelers

Hi Rich, Well, I DO enjoy the much-maligned Wheeler & Woolsey ;-) But I have a feeling the Clark & McCullough films will always maintain an elusive, "creepy" feel about them: Paul McCullough, dull & unfunny...Bobby Clark, frenetic (and unfunny)! I don;t know, Paul McCullough m...

Re: short comedies on EYE

In 2008 Elif Kaynacki and I co-hosted a Mabel Normand retro at the Eye Film Institute (then the Nederlands Filmmuseum) and we showed AT CONEY ISLAND in 35mm. It was absolutely gorgeous. We also showed MOLLY O, HEAD OVER HEELS, and premiered the Filmmuseum's restoration of her Goldwyn film THE FLOOR...

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"

This bit had to had originated on stage. It just screams 'vaudeville routine.' And yet I've never read of any stage comic performing this.... Good God, it goes back to Commedia Del Arte' ! I remember once sitting among a group of historians trying to figure out just how far back one could trace tha...

Re: The Stooges Scrapbook

Dear Mafiosi: A request for some Stooges-related help: does anyone know if the cartoon segments from “The Stooges Scrapbook” (1960 TV pilot) circulate anywhere? I see that a couple of people have posted the live-action segments (subsequently reworked into Three Stooges in Orbit) on Youtube. I know ...
