Re: Walter Hiers' property auctioned

Not to mention that he had his own Spanish galleon (I presume it was a scale model replica).

Re: Our Favorite Clifftop

Yes, I remember AIR TIGHT being shot further south and looking north, and I don't know whether I've seen TEN MINUTE EGG. I was mainly concerned with the LIZZIES OF THE FIELD shot, and that looks like a bit north of there, based on the the beach line and other factors. Much of those cliffs have erode...

Re: Hallroom Boys in "Conjuror James"

Hi Tommie! That was Ed "Bud" Flanagan (not to be confused with the British comedian by that name, of Flanagan & Allen) who with Neely Edwards actually were the guys who played the Hallroom Boys in vaudeville, and brought the characters to film. By the way, Ed Flanagan was Dennis O'Keef...

Re: Hardy v. Hal Roach Studios Inc.

I'm surprised you didn't wonder why Thomas Hardy was suing the king of Irish comedians.

Re: Our Favorite Clifftop

Actually, Chris, it's in Pacific Palisades, just southwest of Temescal Canyon Road, an area called Palisades Park where there is now a street called Via de Las Olas (there was no street then). I first visited and figured out the location in the early 1980's, but I revisited in in 1999 or 2000 to pho...

Re: Hallroom Boys in "Conjuror James"

Actually, the ones with "Gil Wells" (i.e. the guy in the glasses) were prior to George Williams, because the one that I can confirm from stills is STARS AND STRIPES (1921). From this description though, CONJUROR JAMES sounds like a different film from that one.

Re: Hallroom Boys in "Conjuror James"

Oops - for the name I've seen connected I meant to write Gilbert Wells, not Gilbert Williams. Steve Steve, the name "Gil Wells" came from a copy of a still I have which I made from the scrapbook of Jack Mintz (assistant director/writer/bit player/dog trainer on the Hallroom Boys series). ...

Re: BRINGING UP FATHER (1946)

Richard, thanks for the review. I'm going to have to check out one of the Jiggs and Maggies as I haven't seen any. I'm also still waiting to see my first Walter Catlett/Raymond Walburn "Henry the Rainmaker" series film among the other Monogram comedy series. I have seen a couple of the &qu...
