Re: New book on vaudeville career of Marx Brothers - October pub

It's finally happening, the book publishes on October 15. Here's a website with some info on the book . Check out the Who's Who section, it has some pictures of people you may have heard about for years but have never seen a photo of. The section also introduces two new performers who worked with th...

Re: EVERETT TRUE BREAKS INTO THE MOVIES (1917) Bobbie Bolder

Very interesting. The character is based on a comic strip that I never heard of and ran from about 1905 thru 1927. I looked up some examples and it seemed to use exactly one joke repeated daily for 20+ years: Everett is offended by someone lacking in some area and beats them up. https://s15.postimg....

New book on vaudeville career of Marx Brothers - October pub

Coming this October the most in depth look at the Marx Brothers' stage career, as we'll likely ever get: http://press.library.northwestern.edu/content/four-three-musketeers Author is Rob Bader, who released the multi disc Marx Brothers on TV set two years ago. And was also the editor of a Groucho an...

Re: Clowns

Very interesting to watch these side by side. I'm assuming these two different language versions were done the same way as say Laurel and Hardy did multiple languages of the same film. The camera setups vary and for a bit I thought scenes without language were of the same actual performance shot fro...

Re: MACK SENNETT COLLECTION COMMENTARY TRACKS and ERRATA

A great set, unbelievably crisp images! Like someone said elsewhere, now you notice things you did not notice before. I hadn't noticed before that in The Dentist you can see that the daughter has a pair of ice tongs above her bed. I imagine I could see it (now) in other editions but it has never lea...

Re: MARX BROTHER TV COLLECTION Review

Gary - Thanks for the explanation about the running gag of stars not appearing. I haven't listened to enough of these shows to catch on that. The state these shows exist in make them hard to listen to (and for me anyways, the 'comedy' in these early shows makes them hard to listen to, the glory days...

Re: MARX BROTHER TV COLLECTION Review

Who knows what other on-air gems we are missing out on today? The surviving broadcast of THE CIRCLE is indeed a great show, and the other great surviving thirties broadcasts have to include the one and a half surviving episodes of FLYWHEEL, SHYSTER AND FLYWHEEL, their 1933 NBC show that became the ...

Re: MARX BROTHER TV COLLECTION Review

The live bits stand out for me, Chico and Harpo doing their 40 year old four handed piano routine is my favourite so far. Chico is full of an energy I usually don't associate with him. The act is even updated to include a Harry Truman reference and it certainly beats the version done ten years earli...
