Hi Rich,
Well, I DO enjoy the much-maligned Wheeler & Woolsey ;-)
But I have a feeling the Clark & McCullough films will always maintain an elusive, "creepy" feel about them: Paul McCullough, dull & unfunny...Bobby Clark, frenetic (and unfunny)!

Re: RKO Two-Reelers
Judging Clark & McCullough by the only legacy they left us -- their films -- poor Paul McCullough as a comedy performer doesn't even qualify for "stooge" status. (Using the term "stooge" here in its exclusively pre-1934 terminology, before being elevated to another level by M...

Re: RKO Two-Reelers
It's not too surprising that McCullough was the dominant partner at first. They were boyhood friends and Paul was 5 years older than Bobby. That's a big age difference when one is young. But I bet it didn't take long for them to realize who had the most talent, which may be what helped drive McCull...

Re: RKO Two-Reelers
Clark & McCullough are favorites even if some people don't appreciate them today. When their 1931 shorts were announced in a 2 page Boxoffice ad, It was a big deal. I don't enjoy Clark & McCullough's films for C & McC themselves, but I would never turn down an opportunity to catch the o...

Re: short comedies on EYE
The quality of this title and others here is exceptional, it's easy to envision another Silent Comedy Mafia DVD volume or a Slapsticon Program assembled from these rare shorts -- on many levels, AT CONEY ISLAND certainly deserves wider attention.

Re: short comedies on EYE
Here's another new one - it's AT CONEY ISLAND (10/28/1912) the 11th Keystone release: http://www.thoughtequity.com/video/clip/14160152_s01.do It was one of the early ones shot on the east coast, and then released a little later. It stars Mabel, Sterling, Sennett and Gus Pixley. Thanks again Steve a...

Re: RKO Two-Reelers
TCM is finishing up New Year's Day showing "Gasoloons." That's this Sunday at 11:43pm ET. I'm hoping this is the start of their showing the RKO two reelers and wonder if this might answer some questions re:who holds the rights now. Hi Robert! Unfortunately it's doubtful that the Jan. 1st ...

Re: "Mirror Routine" in Three Stooges short
Curly Howard and Duke York (as "Lupe The Wolf Man") do the mirror routine in the 1944 Three Stooges short IDLE ROOMERS. Hello Richard, and thanks for reminding me - Curly's initial reaction to his "reflection" is priceless. It's one of his last strong performances before the ill...

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"
This bit had to had originated on stage. It just screams 'vaudeville routine.' And yet I've never read of any stage comic performing this.... Good God, it goes back to Commedia Del Arte' ! I remember once sitting among a group of historians trying to figure out just how far back one could trace tha...

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"
Ed - the clip of Harold Lloyd doing the mirror routine used in THE THIRD GENIUS is from THE MARATHON ('19), which is at Eastman House. About a year ago I was watching a bunch of Alice Guy Blanche's Solax films and came across the earliest use of the routine that I've seen - 1912's HIS DOUBLE, where...
