Richard J. Anobile 76

I bought many of his books back in the day. It seems so strange now to buy a book of frame blow-ups. Also during my youth Anobile's books were the only way to somehow "see" these films. There was a debate among my film buff buddies if you read an Anobile book, can you claim seeing the movi...

Re: THE HONORABLE MR BUGGS (1927) Matt Moore, Anna May Wong, Oliver Hardy

The youtube channel this film, as well as BOX CAR LIMITED has been deleted. Was the channel deleted because they uploaded a video of a comedian in blackface from a near century ago? Jolson and Garland still appear in blackface on youtube.

Educational Television Syndication Inquiry.

I have recently seen an ad for a TV syndication package of Educational talkie shorts. It was called the CARNIVAL COMEDY PACKAGE and it was syndicated by Tele-Features, Inc. Since the Educational negatives were torched in 1937, where did Tele-Features, Inc. get their pre-print for the 16mm reduction ...

Another Hal Roach Studios Query

I was perusing the SHOWBIZ IMAGERY AND FORGOTTEN HISTORY blog and I saw some frame grabs from a Canadian TV sci-fi made for TV movie entitled STARSHIP INVASIONS from 1977. The title card says this film was produced by "Hal Roach Studios International LTD." Did this entity have any actual c...

Re: Billy Bevan - Kickstarter

Thank you you Daves for this wonderful disc. Usually when you guys release a disc I quote Oliver Twist. There was so much material on these discs and obvious long stretches on the computer video restoration programs you two must be exhausted. Thank you guys for providing me with silent film comedy I...

Re: COMIQUE magazine issue number two

A finer Sunday morning read I have not had in a long time. An extremely high quality production with great writing. Ed's Rohauer article was absolutely fascinating. I have a couple of Rohauer stories I may relate later. After reading Comique I settled down for a repast and decided to watch some Lloy...

Thank you so much for this information. I didn't know who was responsible though I was certain it was not Tom. Researching historical facts and putting them in a book is not enough. You have to present these facts in an interesting and entertaining way and Tom Reader certainly does just that. "...

Re: Unknown Lloyd Hamilton Clips

Just wanted to say that long clip of Monty Banks from FOB Africa is a gem. - SteveR The dog coming after Monty in the street seems unscripted, making the scene an actuality. I've seen a couple of other silent comedies where unscripted dogs come at the comedian during the scene, usually on a street ...

Re: LISTEN LENA (1927) Al St. John, Clem Beauchamp

Has the fat man been identified? I would say Jean Havez but he was in the grave when this was made. Can you imagine being arrested for wearing pajamas in public? In Charleston West Virginia in the teens one would receive a $5 fine for not wearing a hat outdoors. Now one can see nearly naked people i...
