Stephen Salmons RIP
Very sad news that Stephen Salmons, one of the co-founders with his wife Melissa of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival has passed away at the age of 64. Back in the early 1990's Stephen and Meliissa began coming to Cinecon to begin building interest for a Silent Film Festival in San Francisco an...

Robert Carringer RIP
Noted Orson Welles scholar Robert L. Carringer has passed away at the age of 81, he wrote two terrific books, one that separated the myth from the production of CITIZEN KANE and one that gave us a real reconstruction of THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSON, annotating the full script and giving us many wonderfu...

Re: Question re. YOUR TECHNOCRACY AND MINE (1933) Robert Benchley
Not that I know of. It got a few festival screenings when Universal made a new print a few years ago, then disappeared just like most of the other Universal shorts that resurfaced.

Rick Scheckman RIP
Terrible news this morning that longtime Cinephile and Syracuse Cinefest Programmer Rick "Schecky" Scheckman has passed away. He was a fine film collector and historian and had worked for David Letterman through most of Letterman's run on television at NBC and CBS. He was a friend and will...

Re: Unidentified Billy West
Can anyone ID the Billy West comedy that runs from 3:17-5:23 on this video? https://youtu.be/yhV5Dh4cBMk Not sure of the title, but from the locations and the other actors involved (or not involved), this is one of the Billy West comedies shot by the Emerald Film Co. in Chicago in 1919-20. RICHARD ...

Russell Merritt RIP
Apparently film historian, professor and all-around good-guy Russell Merritt passed away suddenly last night. He had taught film up in the Bay Area for many years, wrote good books on Walt Disney and D. W. Griffith, and was one of the movers and shakers at the Pordenone Festival in it's heyday. I us...

Re: Nitrateville was SO concerned about us.......
Thank You William and Rift for your contributions to this thread, and speaking of armchair-quarterbacking, you reminded me on one more Niwit-cine-whiner-vile non-mot of brilliance I wanted to mention: Bravo to Robert Israel for standing up to several, including another cine-whiner’s, self-serving, v...
