Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!

Excellent book. A compendium of invaluable information, very very liberally illustrated with wonderful stills. The product of years of work. All praise. My one substantial complaint is that the book should be longer. I'm perfectly aware that there are many books out there on Lloyd and Laurel & H...

Re: Jack Hanlon (Our Gang, The General) 1916 - 2012

The Las Vegas Sun obituary, attached here, has a very nice still from THE GENERAL that I had never seen before (still code 27-23). Buster's face is covered with lather, which indicates that Keaton may have indeed planned to give the kid a bigger part in the film than he actually had. (Which is to sa...

Roscoe in New York

Interesting piece about the studio where Arbuckle was filming in 1917. Nice pictures. http://www.nybooks.com/blogs/nyrblog/2012/dec/07/manhattans-forgotten-film-studio/ However, the author claims that when Lou Anger urged Keaton to come by and see Roscoe film "The Butcher Boy," "Keato...

Monty Banks as "Sherlock Holmes Jr."

Here's a query. Variety (2/10/22) reports "'Sherlock Holmes Jr.' is the title of a new Monty Banks comedy being made at Warner Brothers' studio. Banks just finished 'Sinkers.'" ("Coast Picture News," pg. 35.) I don't see either of these titles in Banks' IMDB filmography (I know, ...

Re: siblings

Greetings all. I usually content myself with browsing this excellent site, but as it happens I've compiled a 6900 word essay on Harry Keaton (or rather the TWO Harry Keatons), and will happily email it to any interested party. (The commercial audience for such a piece is, amazingly, vanishingly smal...

Re: Scott Eyman revews Brent Walkers Sennett Book

Thank you, Mr Pearson. I agree that this thread should be dwelling more on Mr Walker's book! I have the '79 hc of the Dardis. I am still curious as to where Dardis (and Thiede) got their info on Keaton's grosses and if the Metro figures were broken down into domestic and foreign returns (which would...

Re: Scott Eyman revews Brent Walkers Sennett Book

Hi, a question for David Pearson. Where did Karl Thiede publish the real amount of money Keaton's UA releases made? I appreciated the info in your post very much. As Keaton always said in his interviews that THE GENERAL made about a million, it's good to know that he wasn't that wrong. Where did Dar...

Re: Ham for Christmas!!

Thank you. Between the new Looser Than Loose set, and Anthony Balducci's wonderful Hamilton biography, this has been the Year of Ham the way 2008 was the Year of Harry (Langdon), and the year the Arbuckle set came out was the Year of Roscoe. What's can we hope for 2010?

Just as a point of curiosity -- how are the prints? I"ve seen fine and I've seen blurry prints of GO WEST, and I'm curious as to what source material they used for this disc.

Re: So........would anybody be interested.....

Louie, I would strongly urge you to write that book - Brendel's career cut across a lot of the mid-20th century and he did after all work with some major talents (Walsh, Sturges, Langdon come to mind off the top of my head). I'm pretty unfamiliar with his life, actually, and would find it fascinatin...
