Re: Slapsticon 2013 Reports Thread
Richard and I had a short discussion about that roller coaster roadway in SNAPPY SNEEZER since Del Lord also used it for THUNDERING TAXIS . According to Mr. Roberts it actually was some sort of stand alone amusement ride back when LA was developing over night and fly-by-night hucksters were jumping...

Re: Slapsticon 2013 Reports Thread
Thanks again, Gary, for the detailed account of Slapsticon 2013. Sounds like you caught almost everything, but there were a few more cinematic treats in the final hours on Sunday afternoon. Selections for the finale included a reprise of the 1914 Keystone short A Thief Catcher -- you know, that rece...

Re: Slapsticon 2013 Reports Thread
Thanks for the kind words concerning the diary, William (I believe we spoke outside the theater a few times). This is mostly an excercise against the coming of dementia. Since this short was not written up in the program I was racking my brain trying to remember when it played. You're quite welcome...

Re: Movie Morlocks First Slapsticon 2013 report
As for the Our Gang short, I didn't read into it the overt rascism that you did. After all, this is Our Gang. Farina had been part of their neighborhood group since he was a toddle. The other kids didn't suddenly wake up one morning, realize he was black and decide to snub him. I took it as part of...

Re: Movie Morlocks First Slapsticon 2013 report
My first-ever Slapsticon was a very enjoyable experience, so before I single out a few favorite selections from the bill of fare I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it possible: Ringmaster Richard Roberts, Linda Shah, Rob Farr, accompanists Phillip Carli & Andrew ...

Re: Katherine Grant
Thank you for posting this, Yair, although it's terribly sad. I've always been impressed with Katherine Grant in her Roach comedies, and always wondered what became of her.

Re: June Havoc (1912 - 2010)
In all the obits of June Havoc they note that she appeared in Hey There (1918) with Harold Lloyd. It's also listed as her first film credit (and the only one from the silent era) in IMDb. June Havoc would have been somewhere around 4, 5, or 6 years old in 1918. I've seen Hey There more than once, an...
